Air dance (Jordan, Amman)

In Amman, children often play on the ochre stone esplanades, between harsh light and dense shadow. The red keffiyeh worn by this young girl, a traditional Bedouin emblem that has become a symbol of Jordanian identity, evokes a connection to the land that is as deep as it is unconscious. While Jordan appears to be a country of relative stability in a tense region, it nevertheless carries, within its invisible folds, a youth filled with desires for flight, freedom, and belonging.

Bodily expression in public spaces—jumping, running, improvised dancing—then becomes a form of discreet resistance, of living presence in the world, in a context where feminine spaces are sometimes contained.
