Here, in the Basse-Terre massif , we are in the heart of a tropical rainforest , also called an ombrophile forest . It takes its name from its direct dependence on water from the sky , which fuels its density, its diversity... and its mystery.
Guadeloupe is home to more than 20,000 hectares of them, most of which are protected by the National Park . Rainfall exceeds 6,000 mm per year at altitude, nourishing lush vegetation: tree ferns , palm trees , bois bandé , and purple balisiers that can be seen here, red flashes in the heart of the green thicket.
In the jungle, red is never free : it attracts pollinators and signals life on the move.
The rain falls gently , in soft, continuous sheets. It nourishes .
In this landscape, there is no clear horizon : only superimposed layers . We do not cross it, we enter it .
