In the hills above Trois-Rivières , Guadeloupe , water outages have become so frequent that they are reshaping the most basic actions. In Trou au Chien , it is the rivers, not the taps, that ensure daily life. People come here to wash, almost every day, in a silent but dignified atmosphere.
These men, gathered at the water's edge, embody a form of ordinary resilience: their presence is neither miserable nor picturesque. It simply speaks to the reality of an overseas territory where access to a resource as vital as water remains unequal in 2025. The riverbed then becomes a community and political space, where questions of equality , dignity , and environmental justice are replayed.
This photograph, taken in the heart of the Guadeloupean basin , bears witness to a daily life invisible in tourist imaginations. An invitation to look differently: not at poverty, but at the capacity for reinvention of the most essential gestures.
