Berber fresco (Morocco, Chefchaouen)

In the alleys of Chefchaouen , some murals are not decorative: they document. This one depicts a woman in traditional Rif dress (from the Rif region), recognizable by her hat decorated with pompoms and her striped skirt . These clothes are still worn in rural areas of northern Morocco , particularly by elderly women. Further down, another scene shows a woman from behind carrying a tray on her head— a common gesture in agricultural regions.

Painted directly onto Chefchaouen's iconic blue walls , these frescoes blend folk art and everyday memory . Chefchaouen may be known for its aesthetics , but it also remains a place of oral and visual transmission of rural Berber cultures .
