The medina of Fez, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to more than 9,000 alleyways , often so narrow that only pedestrians can walk through them. During Ramadan, these centuries-old passages have a particular rhythm: as soon as the call to prayer at maghrib (sunset) is given, the streets empty almost instantly, as people return to their families to break their fast.
This phenomenon creates a unique moment of sound and spatial emptiness in a usually bustling medina.
The scene captured here reflects this: between Almohad architecture and the blue light of twilight, religion shapes urban rhythms as much as the uses of space.
