Sitting in front of a wall covered in naive frescoes, this man with his piercing gaze and black keffiyeh evokes the free and proud faces of Wadi Mujib , one of the most spectacular canyons in Jordan , often nicknamed the “Jordanian Grand Canyon”. Here, between sandstone cliffs and deep rivers, the Bedouins live between nomadic tradition and tourist modernity.
His “Pure Tennis” T-shirt, glasses perched on his collar, and haughty bearing create an offbeat portrait , where Western codes meet Bedouin identity. The contrast is accentuated by the mural behind him, which combines shamanic drawings, English slogans, and colorful arabesques—all elements that testify to the growing impact of tourism on local cultures.
Wadi Mujib , classified as a nature reserve by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), attracts hikers, adventurers, and photographers for its spectacular aquatic hikes. But behind the landscapes also emerge issues of transmission: Bedouin communities are claiming their place in the management of these territories, between preservation, reception, and adaptation.
