At the edge of a traffic island, a man assembles and sells handcrafted objects made from recycled materials : glossy paper , plastic packaging , cut-out photos , all laminated and transformed into useful or decorative objects. These creations, suspended from a signpost or placed directly on the sidewalk, recall the forms of informal micro-entrepreneurship that crisscross Middle Eastern cities.
In Salt , a city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021 for its Ottoman architecture and spirit of tolerance, this marginal economy reflects the ability of populations to recycle, invent, and survive in precarious contexts. Neither a shop nor a window, but a visible know-how, inscribed in the daily fabric of the street.
