In Tokyo, this scene juxtaposes three emblematic elements of the urban retro aesthetic : a customized Harley-Davidson , a wall painted in honor of 1950s American rock'n'roll , and a young man with a singular appearance, absorbed in an everyday gesture.
The mural uses the visual codes of Japanese rockabilly : stylized Elvis-style faces, vintage lettering (“Good old Rock'n'Roll”), stars, and vinyl records. This visual movement, born in the United States, was widely adopted in Japan in the 1980s, particularly in neighborhoods like Koenji and Shimokitazawa , epicenters of Tokyo's counterculture . The motorcycle , equipped with retro parts (high handlebars, straight exhaust, covered seat), echoes this mechanical nostalgia, while the young man seems to belong to a more hybrid generation, mixing past references and current dress codes.
