Amber Moon (France, Chartres)

Stretched just above the horizon, the July 2025 full moon takes on a distinctive coppery hue. This phenomenon, often referred to as the Amber Moon , results from atmospheric absorption : when the Moon is low in the sky, the light it reflects passes through an increased thickness of Earth's atmosphere, filtering out short blue wavelengths and letting through warm tones— reds, oranges, yellows .

The lunar maria , craters and highlands are here clearly visible, captured through rigorous focus and exposure work, without the addition of digital coloring. The image maintains optical fidelity to the observed scene, while paying homage to the raw aesthetic of Earth's natural satellite .
