Photographed high above the ground in the heart of Wadi Rum , a desert in southern Jordan listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site , this shot reveals the dizzying scale of the void. On this sea of ochre sand, four 4x4s and a few humans form a temporary island, surrounded by the mineral silence. The tire tracks —clear, then quickly swept away—underline how quickly the desert reasserts itself.
In Wadi Rum , also known as the Valley of the Moon, the dunes and rock formations are shaped by centuries of wind erosion. This place, once inhabited by the Nabataeans , is today Bedouin territory, a sacred place of Jordanian memory, and a natural setting prized by scientific and cinematographic expeditions (such as Dune or The Martian ).
The photograph here captures not a frozen landscape, but the temporary imprint of human presence—almost invisible in the orange mass of the desert. A tension between gesture, erasure, and inscription in the ground.
This photograph was selected by the prestigious international gallery 1X.com, which recognizes works for their aesthetic and documentary value.
