Under a cloud of hanging pink and fuchsia umbrellas , a yellow figure raises its face. This installation is part of the Umbrella Sky Project , designed by Patrícia Cunha , a Portuguese artist renowned for her artistic interventions in public spaces. First launched in Águeda in 2011, this ephemeral project has since spread to more than 35 cities around the world , including Paris, Tokyo, Lisbon and Miami.
The umbrellas are not chosen at random: beyond their protective function, they become vectors of light, surprise and collective imagination , temporarily transforming the urban landscape into a poetic installation. The choice of the color pink is not decorative: it echoes awareness campaigns (notably for the fight against breast cancer ) with which the artist is often associated.
This urban work offers a playful reappropriation of public space , while establishing a gentle form of resistance to the dominant verticality of cities: looking up, stopping, feeling.
