Facing the Saintes archipelago, the Trois-Rivières jetty welcomes anglers daily, rooted in a discreet but lively practice. Far from folklore, this activity remains a gesture of subsistence and transmission: children are introduced to patience, the tides, and bait. Coulirous (mullet), wahoo, red snapper... the season dictates what will be caught.
To the right, the red alignment beacon—a maritime navigation tool—signals safe entry to the channel. These beacons are vital in the volcanic areas of Basse-Terre, where the seabed is shaped by ancient lava flows, invisible but formidable, especially during hurricane season.
The jetty itself is built from blocks of basalt, a volcanic rock characteristic of this region of Guadeloupe. Beneath the fisherman's feet, thousands of years of geology lie dormant in the stones: eruptions, collapses, upheavals. Each line stretched along the water's edge is part of a story that is both intimate and telluric.
