The Moroccan Atlas Mountains, the immense backbone of the Maghreb, shape both the landscape and the seasons. At its foot, reservoirs, often from agricultural dams or seasonal lakes, bear witness to a precarious balance between natural resources and human pressures. As high-altitude glaciers melt earlier in the year and rainfall becomes scarcer, landscapes are transforming—more quickly than we might think.
This sunrise in the heart of the High Atlas captures a moment of tension between promise and exhaustion: the sky seems on fire, but the earth is drying up. The water below forms—without any trickery—a partially dried-up heart. A symbolic, almost ironic geography in a region that is witnessing the growth of both the beauty of contrasts and the urgency of imbalances.
