Overlooking the biblical lands of Jordan, the Brazen Serpent Monument stands atop Mount Nebo , the sacred site where, according to tradition, Moses glimpsed the Promised Land but never entered it. This contemporary sculpture, designed by Italian artist Giovanni Fantoni , is inspired by both the biblical caduceus and the bronze serpent mentioned in the Book of Numbers (21:9). It symbolizes healing , salvation , and the union of the earthly and the heavenly .
A major pilgrimage site, Mount Nebo has welcomed several international religious figures, including Pope John Paul II in 2000, who came to pray and plant an olive tree of peace. This historic moment reinforced the ecumenical dimension of the site, which is now part of the collective memory of the great spiritual places of the Middle East .
Little known to traditional tourist circuits, the site attracts believers, historians, and lovers of sacred art who come to contemplate this monumental work, erected facing the desert, like a silent prayer. It symbolically links Jordan to the biblical story, and faith to art.
