On a beach in Kerala , in southern India , fishermen bring their fishing nets back to shore in a movement choreographed by custom and tradition. This gesture, repeated every day, embodies ancestral know-how , passed down from generation to generation in coastal villages.
The superposition of bodies, nets and light produces a double image , like a memory imprinted in the sand. The movement is both real and symbolic: pulling the nets is to summon the gestures of the past, to keep them alive in the present, and to nourish a community whose main horizon remains the sea.
Far from the tourist images of the Indian coast, this scene evokes the resilience of artisanal practices in the face of modern upheavals: marine pollution, scarcity of fish, industrial competition.
