The Wadi Musa region, on the edge of the southern Jordanian desert, is home to one of the country's first wind farms. Located not far from the famous city of Petra, these structures embody a discreet but strategic turning point: the energy transition of the Hashemite Kingdom . By 2023, Jordan was already drawing nearly 30% of its electricity from renewable sources , with an ambitious target of 50% by 2030 .
The Tafila wind turbines (further south) paved the way in 2015, but this Wadi Musa site demonstrates a more refined installation: high up, on the ridges, where the desert wind blows regularly, between layers of hot and cold air. This is not an imposed technological landscape, but an almost clear-cut insertion into the local topography. Their almost silent presence speaks as much to the political effort as to the demanding climate of the Middle East.
