In an old Ottoman house in Salt , she agreed to let me take her portrait. She insisted that the photo be taken in the shadows, where intimacy is better expressed than the glare of daylight.
She wears a black niqab , covering her entire face except for her eyes, a personal and cultural choice distinct from anonymity. The sidelight reveals the textures of the fabric and the reflections in her eyes, captured through precise exposure without post-production artifice.
Once the image was captured, in a rare and deeply touching gesture, she lifted her veil. Not in defiance, nor in a break, but as a sign of trust, so that we could truly meet, a moment of human recognition outside the lens.
This photograph was selected by the prestigious international gallery 1X.com, which recognizes works for their aesthetic and documentary value.
