On the white beaches of Zanzibar , a herd of zebu advances slowly, led by a Maasai herder in search of coastal pastures. This unexpected pastoral rite on the sand belongs to a form of coastal transhumance , born from the scarcity of grassy spaces inland. The coastline then becomes a space of survival as much as of passage: the Maasai , a semi-nomadic people of East Africa, adapt their ancestral practice of cattle breeding to modern constraints . The animals feed on seaweed residues and young marine shoots, while the absence of fences facilitates their movement. The scene mixes pastoral landscape and marine environment , revealing a new territory of interdependence between humans, animals and the shore.
