In the Moroccan Middle Atlas , the use of rammed earth (stabilized or unstabilized raw earth) remains common in inhabited buildings, particularly in rural areas where traditional construction know-how is still passed down locally. This material naturally regulates the interior temperature, reducing energy requirements.
Rural buildings are often organized around rooms facing the valley, taking advantage of natural light and cross-ventilation. The agricultural landscape visible through the opening is typical of the Saïs or pre-Atlas areas, where mosaics of crops (cereals, olive trees, legumes) coexist with hilltop villages.
